I thought there were some things to find interesting about this movie, but ultimately it was marred by the way the female characters, especially cherry are depicted on screen. I think there is a clear attempt to include themes of autonomy, sex work, & female exploitation but in the runtime I think it's ultimately undermined by playing very heavily into the male gaze. I went into this blind, but the nudity and premise felt more like direct fanservice rather than doing anything subversive or interesting. This is doubly so considering the protagonist is supposed to be placed in the body of her 14 year old self. It honestly just felt sleazy to me.

Visually there are some strong moments but I also found some of the designs gaudy and not very memorable. I think there are much stronger works out there when it comes to tackling these themes. I did really like the fight scenes, I think that and some musical moments were some of the strongest parts of this. I think I will probably watch the next part because I'm curious if it will change my outlook on this one, but I don't have high hopes.
